Whittier Live Scan Timeline: From Request Form to Fingerprints
Fingerprinting for a job or license feels abrupt when it comes with a deadline. Knowing the order of the steps makes the process calmer. Here is a practical timeline for Whittier residents and workers, from the first request to the moment your prints are taken.
Days before: get the request
Fingerprinting almost always starts with an agency or employer. They give you a Live Scan Request form, or tell you where to download it. The form contains the agency's codes and fields for your personal details. Ask the requesting party if you are unsure about anything on it. We cannot choose codes for you or tell you whether you need Live Scan at all.
Next: complete the form carefully
Fill in your information exactly as it should appear. A mistake in name spelling or birth date can cause trouble later. If any field depends on agency information you do not have, contact the agency instead of guessing.
Keep a copy of the completed form for yourself, but plan to bring the original on appointment day.
Then: book your appointment
You can book online or call. Choose a time and tell us where you will be. Because we are mobile, the appointment can be at a home, workplace or other suitable location in the area. If you need an evening, weekend or after-hours time, say so, and we will tell you what is available.
The day before and the morning of
Pull together:
The original agency request form.
A valid government-issued photo ID.
A way to pay applicable fees.
Wash your hands with soap and dry them well. Skip heavy hand lotion, since it can make prints harder to capture clearly.
At the appointment
We check your ID and form, enter the information from the form into the system, and capture your fingerprints electronically. You will be given a receipt or transaction number. Keep it. Your employer or agency may ask for it.
After: what happens next
Your prints are submitted according to the form. From there, the agency receives the outcome, not us. We do not see results and cannot predict or promise how long they take. If you have questions about status, contact the agency or employer that requested the check.
What if your prints are rejected?
Sometimes prints cannot be read well enough on the first try. If that happens, the process may need to be repeated. That is a quality issue with the prints, not a judgment about you.
Plan with a buffer
If you have a start date or a filing deadline, work backward from it and leave room. Book your appointment early rather than the last possible day.
